Cornwall Hedge ii
This is a multi layered monoprint printed on a wooden block. With this print I wanted to explore the possibilities of printing on wood and the range of marks that were possible. I have found that this process gives a beautifully subtle and evocative print. I have also engraved into the surface of the wood with my lino cutting tools as I was keen to exploit the fact that I was printing onto wood and not paper. The subject of this print was a hedge in Cornwall which I came across whilst walking along the coastal path. I’m really pleased with how the prettiness of the flowers are balanced by the contemporary feel of the wooden block. I really enjoyed making this print and I will continue with this way of working. The wooden block can be hung on a wall or can sit on a surface such as a shelf. The finished block has been sprayed with archival artist varnish to serve as protection.
